Sports Medicine Specialty
At Pacific Coast Orthopaedic, we are dedicated to delivering the latest, state-of-the-art care, specializing in getting athletes back to health. Sports Medicine is a subspecialty of orthopedics that addresses prevention and treatment for all athletes.
Some signs of a sports injury include: joint pain, tenderness, swelling, weakness, numbness, tingling and restricted range of motion. It is imperative that medical treatment is sought at the onset of an injury. Sports medicine deals with any injury involving joints, whether the damage is to ligaments, tendons, or bones. We treat all musculoskeletal injuries to the hip, knee, shoulder, leg and arm.
Most common knees injuries are usually meniscal tears, cartilage damage and anterior cruciate ligament tears. Common shoulders injuries are tears in the labrum (cartilage) and rotator cuff, in addition to shoulder-instability procedures (dislocations and separations).Bursitis and tendonitis are often treated without surgery. Other joints, including the elbow, wrist, ankle, or foot, also may require surgery.
Sports medicine doctors also treat overuse injuries, primarily in athletes who abuse muscle groups, bones (stress fractures, shin splints), tendons, and ligaments in multiple seasons. The longer an athlete delays therapy after an injury, the harder it is for the body to recover. That is why we emphasize early intervention after injury with therapy and rehabilitation.
Dr. Ninh’s training at Henry Ford Health Systems in Detroit, Michigan gave him the opportunity to work with world-renowned surgeons, developing advanced arthroscopic skills to treat athletes of all sports. He was involved in the treatment of professional players from the Detroit Lions, Tigers and Red Wings. He also worked as a physician on the collegiate and high school level as team doctors for the Santa Ana College, and most currently Bolsa Grande High School.
